Manchester City’s perfect Premier League start ended at Villa Park, Bournemouth enjoyed a very good Sunday at Old Trafford, Liverpool found their first home league win of the season and Richard Kone managed to finish a hat-trick before some supporters had found their seats.
Aston Villa end City’s perfect start
Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice. It ended City’s perfect league start and gave Villa a fourth consecutive win in all competitions. Unai Emery’s side have also now beaten City in three straight Premier League meetings.
Villa’s official match report has the full story. For anyone enjoying the timing, the It’s McGinning To Look a Lot Like Christmas T-shirt is live on the store.
Bournemouth make Old Trafford very quiet
Bournemouth won 3-0 away to Manchester United on Sunday. Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored as Bournemouth made it four straight victories. United are now without a win in eight matches since 10 September.
A 3-0 away win is tidy enough. Doing it at Old Trafford tends to make the journey home feel shorter. The match report covers a difficult afternoon for Michael Carrick’s side.
Liverpool finally get home points
Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield, helped by a Pascal Gross own goal before Alexander Isak added the second. It was Liverpool’s fourth consecutive win in all competitions and, rather surprisingly for late October, their first home league victory of the season.
The result moved Liverpool up to fourth. The club’s official report has the details.
Kone finishes a hat-trick before quarter of an hour
QPR beat Swansea City 5-0, and Richard Kone completed his hat-trick in the 15th minute. According to the EFL, it was the earliest completed hat-trick from kick-off in England’s top four divisions since Opta records began in 2004-05.
That is one way to remove the tension from a Championship afternoon. The EFL statistical round-up confirms the record, while Sky Sports has the match report.
Dates worth keeping clear
Newcastle United v Arsenal, Saturday 21 November, 5.30pm GMT. A useful early marker in the November schedule, with both the Newcastle United collection and Arsenal collection live for supporters planning ahead.
Liverpool v Manchester United, Sunday 22 November, 4.30pm GMT. One of the fixtures that needs no sales pitch. The Liverpool collection and Manchester United collection are both available now.
The November kick-off times were confirmed in the Premier League fixture update.
That was the week. City finally dropped points, Bournemouth made Old Trafford look oddly comfortable, Liverpool remembered where the home win button was and Kone was finished before the first quarter of an hour.
